Electrical Engineering students at Western have the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art equipment in the cutting-edge field of optoelectronics. In the optoelectronics laboratory, capabilities include analyzing the polarization dependence of optoelectronic devices, measuring the spectral characteristics of tunable lasers with sub-picometer resolution, and testing the bit error ratio at transmission rates up to 12.5 Gb/s.
The optoelectronics laboratory is an important component of the Center for Rapid Product Realization. In addition, our collaboration in the Carolina MicroOptics Triangle brings together
- Photonic materials
- Component design
- Optoelectronic testing and prototyping
- Optoelectronic technology for the key markets of the Carolinas
