Dr. Collins has been involved with the WCU anesthesia program since its inception, fulfilling roles as faculty, assistant director and then director. He has served as the interim associate director of the school of nursing with responsibility for the graduate programs and Director of the DNP program. He currently serves as the Interim Associate Dean of the College of Health and Human Sciences and Director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program for the WCU School of Nursing.
Over the last 10 years Dr. Collins has lectured nationally and internationally (Madrid,
Spain; Buea, Cameroon; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam) on continuing
education of nurse anesthetists in developing countries and evidence-based practice.
He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the American Association of Nurse
Anesthetists (AANA), the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists and the International
Leadership Association. Dr. Collins also serves on the nurse anesthesia steering committee
for Health Volunteers Overseas.
Dr. Collins currently serves on the NBCRNA National Certification Examination Committee and has served as an advanced education nursing grant reviewer for the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Bureau of Health Professions. Dr. Collins has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and is first author of a chapter in the 5th edition of Nurse Anesthesia (Hepatobiliary anesthesia). He currently resides in Mills River, North Carolina.
