Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®)
The TEAS® is an assessment product of Academic Testing, Inc (ATI). The WCU School
of Nursing Undergraduate Pre-licensure BSN program uses applicant performance on the
ATI, in addition to the Verbal/Critical Reading SAT and current collegiate grade point
average, to rank applicants. The Acceleratd BSN program uses performance on the ATI,
cumulative undergraduate grade point average and the interview score to rank applicants.
WCU tests using TEAS Version V (5.0). ATI provides information regarding the TEAS® at: http://www.atitesting.com/Solutions.aspx. You are encouraged to review this information.
While ATI permits repeat administration of the TEAS V exam, the School of Nursing
will allow applicants to take the TEAS exam only one time during an application cycle.
An application cycle is defined as the day following the previous program admission
cycle's deadline and the new application deadline.
Students may take the TEAS only once per application cycle. The two application
cycles are defined as: February 2 - July 15 (Spring application) and July 16 - February
1 (Fall application).
The School of Nursing will accept your score if you took the TEAS V
prior to the beginning of the application cycle during which you are
applying. If you have taken the TEAS V prior to the beginning of the
application cycle and choose to repeat the exam in an attempt to improve
your score, you must take an alternate version. ATI makes available two
versions of the TEAS V, referred to as "Schedule A" and "Schedule B".
For example, if you previously took Schedule A, you will now need to
take Schedule B. Applicants must take the TEAS exam by the application deadline.
For more information about TEAS admissions guidelines and application deadlines, please
contact Dr. Jessica Shirley, Director of Student Services: jshirley@wcu.edu.
Registration for TEAS® Administration
For BSN and ABSN applicants, the TEAS will be administered by the WCU Continuing Education Department on the Cullowhee campus. To review dates and make a reservation, visit http://www.wcu.edu/26401.asp.
Off-Campus Testing
The TEAS does not need to be taken at WCU however, if taken off campus, students must still adhere to our testing guidelines. Students wishing to take the TEAS exam off-campus are encouraged to contact their local university, community college or testing center (i.e., Prometric or Sylvan). Students may also arrange to take the exam through PSI Exams Online. Exams arranged through PSI can typically be scheduled and proctored through a local testing center. The exam cost through PSI is currently $110. Scores are available within 72 hours after completing the exam. If registering with PSI, please schedule your test date at least 3 days in advance of the application deadline. For more information, please visit PSI Exams Online.
