The accurate identification of mosquito species is critical when evaluating disease risk and monitoring mosquito population trends. Upon request, the Mosquito and Vector-Borne Infectious Disease Facility can identify mosquito specimens for professional agencies. This service is generally available free of charge for public health agencies in western North Carolina (i.e., Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, Swain, and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians).
In addition, mosquito identification services are available for Professional Mosquito
Control Organizations. For more information contact Dr. Brian Byrd.
