About Jennifer Hinton:
Jennifer Hinton was born in a small suburb in Northeast Ohio where the snow was plentiful. She was always interested in learning, and says that she “…kept going to college until they told me I could stay!” Her three degrees are all in some form of recreation therapy; she received a BS from Kent State University, an MS from Indiana University, and a Ph.D. from Clemson University. Her main areas of practice in the profession, other than teaching, have been in mental health, challenge course, and camp settings. She has been certified as a recreation therapist since 1991.
Her main areas of interest regarding research and publications have been in the Scholarship
of Teaching and Learning, though she is highly interested in collaborative work and
has completed projects in a number of different areas with her colleagues. Her main
interest is students and her interactions with them in learning situations both within
and outside of the classroom. Though she has taught dozens of courses in both recreation
therapy and recreation studies in the past, she currently teaches:
RTH 250 Inclusion and Recreation for People with Disabilities
RTH 352 Recreational Therapy Processes and Techniques
RTH 370 Methods of Recreational Therapy
RTH 470 Adventure-Based Recreational Therapy
