Biography:
Richard S. Beam, an associate professor of theatre in the School of Stage and Screen, holds Bachelor's (1966) and Master's (1969) degrees from Indiana University (Bloomington) and a Ph.D. (1984) fo the Universty of Georgia. He joined the faculty at Western in 1971, serving for almost 30 years as principal faculty scenic and lighting designer and technical director for WCU's theatre program.
He has been involved with closed to 300 theatrical productions as a director, designer or technical director, often filling multiple rols. After serving as Director of Theatre Productions, supervising many of the administrative functions of the University Theatre for several years, he was elected Chair of the Faculty at Western in 2006, a position for which he was re-elected to for a second two year term, so he will continue in this capacity until 2010.
Prior to coming to Western, Dr. Beam served as co-technical director for the Indiana Theatre Company and as technical director and scenic and lighting designer for Theatre 65, the Children's Theatre of Evanston, Illinois.
