The $26 million John W. Bardo Fine and Performing Arts Center Theatre houses a 1,000-seat theatre for the staging of Broadway-quality performances. It also is home to a small studio theatre, which can hold 50-100 people, and WCU's Fine Art Museum
The technical theatre is housed in the approximately $2 million scenic and costumes workshops in the Fine and Performing Arts Center. The technical theatre areas offer
students the opportunity to explore different focuses with rooms and floors dedicated
to areas of technical theatre.
The 450-seat Hoey Auditorium is our second largest theatre and is often used for our Mainstage Theatre Season.
It also houses our new audition ready room, which facilitates the acting faculty in
working with our students on auditions for professional projects in a space dedicated
to the support of our students' careers. Students' auditions are captured on one of
our high-definition cameras and then electronically submitted to the agent, casting
director, producer, or production company, whether within the region or across the
country.
The 137-seat Josefina Niggli Theatre is our most intimate theatre. It is our "classroom of imagination," which is primarily used as a classroom, but also serves our students as the home to many of our University Players productions. Niggli also is utilized as our motion picture screening room due to its high-definition capabilities.
Originally designated as a nuclear fallout shelter, the solid stone structure of Breese Gymnasium dates from the 1930s and served as the areas's first basketball arena. Now, newly
renovated to house the Dance Program, the second floor features spacious studios,
a practice room, and a technology-equipped classroom.
Whether you're designing an auto part, turning a script into a television program,
or recording a musical composition, the Center for Applied Technology (CAT Center)
is the home for you. Encompassing 28,000 square feet, the center is equipped with
high-tech tools for programs of study in, music, communication, and sales and marketing.
Here you'll find engineering laboratories for technology based manufacturing, network
quality television and recording studios, and a center for the study of business-to-business
sales.

Belk is home to our Motion Picture and Television Production Program. It also houses our editing labs for post-production work.
