At Western, we start with the story. From screenplay through post-production, whether in fiction or non-fiction forms, our philosophy is to use technology in service of the material they create.
Why? Because that's what we've learned as film-industry professionals. Every one of our professors has professional filmmaking experience. We'll take you step-by-step through the process, teaching you not only how to use state-of-the-art digital equipment but what the thinking is behind the technique, so you won't be caught short when technology changes.
We are a hands-on program, getting you behind the cameras (and into the editing room and doing jobs you never knew were part of filmmaking). At the same time, we'll be teaching you the history, culture, and art of film and TV.
MPTP Acceptance Policy
Entering freshmen may declare MPTP as their major without applying first. They must then apply during their first year and be accepted into the program to continue in their sophomore year. The applications are due this year no later than January 19, 2013. The initial announcement of acceptance will be on February 19, 2013. Those not accepted on that date who have at least a 2.5 GPA will be wait-listed. The final announcement of acceptance will be on April 11, 2013.
AA and Transfer students and WCU change-of-majors cannot declare MPTP without first applying and being accepted into the program. They may apply for either fall or spring semester. If they wish to apply for admission in fall 2013, we strongly recommend that they submit their applications by January 19, 2013 so they can be considered along with the current freshmen. MPTP will continue to accept applications from AA, Transfers, and change-of-majors until April 1 for any remaining places.

"This program is the whole reason I came to WCU.
[T]he potential is incredible for this program
and the students in it. The sky is the limit."
