Biography:

William Henigbaum has directed the Western Carolina University Civic orchestra, a college and community ensemble, since 1993.  He performs regularly with the Asheville and Hendersonville Symphony Orchestras and maintains a small violin studio.  

Mr. Henigbaum retired to Sylva, NC in December 1985 after 36 years with the Tri-City Symphony in Davenport, Iowa. He performed with the Grant Park Symphony and  Chicago Civic Orchestra, and other orchestras in the Northern Illinois region. Mr. Henigbaum has taught violin at the American Conservatory of Music, St. Ambrose College, Marycrest College, and Augustana College.

The Civic Orchestra is open to players of all ages.  It is jointly sponsored by the School of Music and the Jackson County Arts Council, which also sponsors the annual concerto competition.  Auditions for the concerto competition are held in January and the winners perform on the orchestra Spring concert in April.
