Join the School of Art and Design and become a member of one of the most creative
departments at Western Carolina University.
Our academic programs — Art Education, Art History, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Studio Art — allow you to choose a specific area of study and immerse yourself in it to become
a successful professional artist. From an Art Minor to an M.F.A., the choice is yours. Academic advisors within the School of Art and Design are highly
recommended to guide you in the courses required for the path you choose beginning
your first year.
There are two areas of emphasis in the B.F.A. degree, Graphic Design and Studio. Graphic Design allows for a concentrated study in contemporary graphic issues ranging from traditional typography to motion graphics. The Studio area allows for in-depth studies in Print/Book Arts, Photography, Painting/Drawing, Ceramics, and Sculpture. You will be exposed to professional practices in the field by meeting with professionals, using the latest technologies, and applying hands-on techniques and practices. While developing your artistic portfolio for the future you’ll also be encouraged to display your work in the Fine Art Museum at Western Carolina University.
Guiding the way is our Art and Design Faculty, many of whom have followed this same path and made their mark as successful professionals and award-winning artists.
