The B.F.A. in art with a graphic design emphasis is considered a pre-professional degree which leads either to careers or to graduate study in design and related disciplines.
One of the goals of the program is for you to form your visual vocabulary and to "speak" it with an artistic voice. The emphasis here is on critical thinking within contemporary issues, combined with a strong understanding of formal design principles and a fluency in multiple mediums.
Through the curriculum, you’ll find design and fine art content interwoven with literature, philosophy, history, and technology.
Graphic design courses are taught in our up-to-date MediaLab, which is equipped with Macintosh computers. Your ability to execute an idea will be limited only by your imagination!
After becoming admitted to WCU, those students who pursue graphic design must apply for entrance into the program by submitting a portfolio of digital images and a letter of application that describes their goals and interests in the field. Students may do this either as entering first year students or as first-semester sophomores.
