The MBA program will hold a social at Highland Brewing on Friday, August 17 from 5:30-7:30pm. Recent MBA alumna Kitty Price, now the sales execution and operations liaison for Highland Brewing, coordinated the event specifically with alumni in mind. The MBA program is encouraging the incoming fall cohorts to attend, as well as any interested current students. Family members, including kids, are welcome. Highland Brewing is a kid-friendly place with a large tasting room, outdoor porch, and lots of open outdoor space. This is the first official alumni event, and we hope to hold at least one annually from this point forward. Several alumni are working on forming an official Alumni Association to improve connections, networking, and relations among the MBA program and graduates. The vision is to keep in close contact with active, engaged alumni who can provide mentorship to current students and input to the MBA program to further our success.
About the Venue
Highland Brewing Company was Asheville’s first legal brewery, opening in 1994. Beginning with retrofitted dairy equipment, Highland brewed 6,500 barrels per year and only sold kegs and 22-oz bottles until 1998 when they began selling 12-oz bottles. In their current space, which opened in 2006, Highland can brew twice a day for four days per week, bottle twice per week in at least 2,000 cases, and produce 30,000 barrels per year – with room to grow. The company has grown from three employees to 40, and Highland beer can be bought in seven states. The tasting room at the brewery opened in 2010 and the outdoor stage was built in 2011 – and is being updated this year along with the addition of an outdoor bar.
