The 2012 College of Business Golf Tournament was a great success, as 81 College of Business alumni, students, faculty, and friends gathered for a fun-filled day. The event was held at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa for the fourth consecutive year. The players and volunteers enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day on the fairways and greens.
Tee off was at 1:30pm, with teams competing for many prizes and recognition, including a car for hole-in-one, and trophies for the top three finishers in each division. Prior to play, players and supporters were treated to a lunch buffet including barbecue and all the fixings. Before and after play, participants were able to socialize and strengthen connections within the College.
Rick Foster, Mark Tedder, Mickey Pettus and Buddy Green, representing the College’s
alums, took the top prize for the net score in the tournament. Ed Lopez, Steve Miller,
Greg Bunner, and J.T. Poston, representing the College’s faculty and students, took
the top prize for the gross score in the tournament. Rick Woollen was the winner
of a Highlands Falls Country Club Round of Golf for four players for Straightest Drive.
Gary Mullis won a Wildcat Cliffs Country Club Round of Golf for four players for Closest
to the Pin. After completing the round, contestants continued the competition by
participating in a raffle for golf products and a sports memorabilia auction.
Title sponsor for the event was Wells Fargo, represented by Jim Wood & Rusty Edwards. The major sponsor was Charlie Grubb and SE Sports and Entertainment. Other sponsors for this event were: Barry Smith; Bob Mulligan – AFIE Department; Bobby Byrd & family; Brad Bradshaw; Charles & Clifton Lambreth; Cullasaja Mentors; David Wiggins & David Dills – Dixon Hughes Goodman; Dr. Jamie Lopez; Jeff Lovette – SoftBase; Jeff Tucker – Pacific Life; John Teeter – Pepsi Bottling Group; Jonathan Jorstad; Tod Harkins – Toyota West; Kevin Stanberry – Stanberry Insurance; Bill Harper – Kappa Alpha Order; Ken Flynt; Louis & Nancy Buck; Michael McLamb; Norman West – Cullowhee Real Estate; Rick Foster, Mark Tedder, Mickey Pettus & Buddy Green – Phi Kappa Alpha; Dan Broughton – Soomo Publishing; Nevada Bob’s; John Locke – Mission Foundation; and Carolina Management Team.
The College of Business is sincerely appreciative of all the sponsors, players, and
volunteers for making this tournament the biggest financial success ever in its fourteen
year history. The funds raised support student scholarships, which are given each
year to scholars who display outstanding academic performance and university involvement.
Thanks again to everyone who contributed. You make a huge difference once again for
our students and our College!
