The special education (SPED) program at WCU is currently supporting two Special Education undergraduate degree programs.
Students entering WCU prior to the summer of 2012 are pursuing our Special Education: General Education (SEGE) Bachelor of Science in Education degree. SEGE majors will be eligible to be recommended for a K-12 special education license through the Department of Public Instruction. The B.S.Ed. in special education is a 120-122 hour program primarily comprised of:
- 42 hours of Liberal Studies
- 21 hours of Professional Education Sequence coursework
- 45 hours of major coursework
- 12-14 hours of concentration course work
- 50 hour service component
Students entering WCU beginning the summer of 2012 are pursuing a B.S.Ed. in Special Education: Inclusive Education (SEIE). SEIE majors will be eligible to be recommended for K-6 license through the Department of Public Instruction. The B.S.Ed. in SEIE will prepare students work with exceptional children in an inclusive environment at the elementary level. The program is 126 credit hours comprised of:
- 42 hours of Liberal Studies
- 21 hours of Professional Education Sequence coursework
- 63 hours of major coursework
- 50 hour service component
