Teaching Fellows Testimonials
Richard Read“Teaching Fellows is without a doubt my favorite part of Western. Without Teaching Fellows, I feel I would have no direction whatsoever when it comes to becoming a teacher. The one-on-one instruction and close relationships with the staff and my peers makes the program more like a family than any other on-campus organization I’ve seen.

“My favorite part of Teaching Fellows is definitely all the travel I’ve done and the people I’ve met. Whether it’s hitting the road on Discovery or spending a week in Europe with a few friends, the WCU Teaching Fellows Program has taken me further than I could have ever imagined I’d have gone on my own.

“Coming to Western on Teaching Fellows is by far the best decision I’ve ever made. In this program I’ve gained invaluable insight on becoming a teacher and am being trained by the best educators in the field of education that the nation has to offer. Because of Teaching Fellows at WCU, I am confident with my decision to become a teacher and excited about the future my profession holds.”

Richard Read, majoring in social science with a history concentration, from Swain County, NC.

“Being a part of WCU Teaching Fellows has given me a group of people to call family.  From the moment I walked into the office,Nathan Bowman I knew that I had found the perfect fit for myself.”

“Another awesome part of being a member of this program is all of the extra opportunities that I am given a chance to take part in. From the Discovery Trip we took the summer after our freshman year, to the many field experience opportunities during the year, I have seen first hand many different aspects of the classroom that really helps me on the road to becoming an extraordinary teacher.”

“On top of all of the ways to get ahead academically, the WCU Teaching Fellows program provides great opportunities for fun and relaxation with the different types of socials and retreats that we have the chance to go on.  Our campus cohort holds many socials during the year ranging from a movie night in the UC theater with pizza and drinks to taking a trip out to Atlanta for a Braves game on a Saturday.  These socials create a great social network that any of us can fall back on during or even after college.”

“Many of my friends are those that I made while sitting in the office between classes.  I have never had a time where I had no one willing to help me.  The Teaching Fellows program here is like one big family that is a shoulder to cry on or a hand to get you through the thick and thin.”

“I believe that coming to WCU as a Teaching Fellow has been one of the best choices I have ever made.  I do not regret one minute of my time here at WCU!”

Nathan Bowman, Majoring in Secondary Math Education, Class of 2012
