Ed.D. Degree Program in Educational Leadership
A Carnegie-influenced executive doctoral program, preparing skilled scholar practitioners to lead organizations in solving complex problems of practice

An Executive EdD for Working Professionals

The Ed.D. Program in Educational Leadership at WCU has undergone a major curriculum revision to be more rigorous and focus on the needs of students pursuing this degree. Students can concentrate in P-12 Leadership or Community College Leadership. Our Ed.D. is a three-year program based on the cohort model. The program is designed for working adults, utilizing hybrid courses that meet one weekend each month plus online assignments. Fieldwork is embedded in our courses that you can complete in your current position.

Curriculum

Our curriculum requires the completion of 52 credits, 43 of which must be taken at WCU. This will be completed by taking two core courses each semester (including summers) for 6 semesters, nine elective credits in your concentration, and the completion of a supervised dissertation.

Admissions

Note that cohorts are limited in number so admissions are competitive. You will apply online through the Graduate School's Apply Yourself system. To apply, you must submit:

  • Application letter
  • Resume highlighting research experience
  • Official GRE scores
  • Official transcripts for all graduate work, documenting a GPA of 3.5
  • At least three reference who will complete an online recommendation

In addition, potential candidates for the cohort will be interviewed and asked to complete a writing exercise. You must have a principal's license prior to admission if you wish to earn a Superintendent's license.

Tuition
