Our Birth-Kindergarten online program offers a birth-kindergarten minor and a B.S. degree with a concentration in either early childhood or professional education, which leads to licensure. Our goals include giving you the skills to meet children's social, emotional, physical, and intellectual needs from birth to kindergarten in a variety of settings.
Admission
Entry to the Program will be selective and not based on open enrollment. It is anticipated
that no more than 30 students will be accepted for the Fall semester and no more than
30 students in the Spring semester. Once you have been accepted to the BK Program
you must maintain a 2.75 grade point average from solely your WCU courses.
Meetings
While Western Carolina University is a regional comprehensive university; courses
take place over the Internet in an asynchronous online environment.

Undergraduate and Transfer Students
Undergraduate students and transfer students will need to consider whether to pursue
a professional education or early childhood course of study; transfer students will
also need to decide whether to complete the whole 44-hour core or transfer Liberal
Studies credits course by course. If you have an A.A.S. degree, you will still need
to complete the 44 hour core or liberal studies in order to receive your B.S. in Birth-Kindergarten.
