Teacher Recruitment Highlights
As Western responds to recruiting teachers for North Carolina, here are a few highlights from our efforts during the past year to recruit future teachers. Below please find highlighted additions/revisions to the list of recruitment activities:
- Developed a recruitment web site http://WANTtoTEACH.wcu.edu
- Established a Twitter account: “WCU_WANTtoTEACH” and an email account “teacherrecruitment@email.wcu.edu”
- Sponsored Teachers of Tomorrow Reaching to Teach Conferences for High School and Community College Students and Middle School Students held annually – http://www.wcu.edu/9994.asp
- Mailed teacher education recruitment cards to high school seniors who have applied to WCU and identified teaching as a career
- Conducted phone-a-thon to high school seniors who identified high need licensure areas as possible majors: Exceptional Children, Mathematics, Middle School, Science
- Visited education classes at community colleges (CEAP faculty)
- Sponsored Teaching Opportunities for Non-Teaching Majors information sessions each semester
