ACCREDITATION
Western Carolina University is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition, the individual colleges and departments are accredited by various associations within their respective fields.
ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Effective Fall 1977, WCU changed from a quarter calendar to a semester calendar consisting of a fall and spring semester. An academic year consists of two semesters of fifteen weeks each. During the summer term, sessions vary in length.
PARTIAL ACADEMIC RECORDS
Effective the Summer Semester, 1987 academic records at WCU were converted to a computerized system. Transcripts may be generated from both electronically and manually maintained records.

Freshman: 0-29 hours Junior: 60-89 hours
Sophomore:30-59 hours Senior 90 or more hours

ACADEMIC STANDING
Notation of Academic Suspension designates the student has not met required academic standing and cannot continue enrollment. Notation of Academic Probation designates the student has not met required academic standing and must meet specific guidelines to continue enrollment.
TWO-YEAR RULE APPLIED
Notation of XG (exclude grade) or XC (exclude credit) followed by earned grade indicates the two-year rule application.
REPEATED COURSE
Notation of (RX) indicates the course has been repeated and the grade has been excluded from the GPA calculation. Notation of (RI) indicates the grade has been included in the GPA calculation.
TRANSFER CREDIT
Notation of “T” followed by the official grade A, B, C, etc. Only courses with a grade of “C” (2.0) or better are accepted. Transfer credits are not computed in a student’s GPA.
DEAN’S LIST
Noted each semester for undergraduate students who have a GPA of 3.50 or higher on a regular semester’s work of not less than twelve hours, excluding remedial courses, with no grade of D+, D, D-, F, or an I at the end of term grading.
TRANSCRIPT VALIDATION
The official transcript is printed on secure paper, carries the signature of the University Registrar and the printed unraised seal of Western Carolina University.
