Faculty Professional Presence Website - Access on request by faculty member.  Go to http://faculty.wcu.edu and click on Request Form in the left sidebar.  Someone will be in touch with you within one work day.

Intranet Committee Site - The chair of the committee needs to submit a service request to the Help Desk. Indicate that the request is for a standard committee site. Please provide proof of the committee's existence, the committee's official name and a list of committee members.

The following Web publishing environments are available for students, faculty and staff at WCU.

expectations - wcu.edu - critical service and expected to be up at all times.  Mission Critical.  Outage windows, if any, will be announced.


paws.wcu.edu - website for professional use for faculty and staff

space - 500mb per faculty or staff member

expectations - expected to be up.  Best Effort.  Outage windows, if any, will be announced.


faculty professional presence websites - website for professional use for faculty

space - as needed

expectations - expected to be up.  Best Effort.  Outage windows, if any, will be announced.

  • subdomains
    These are a great alternative to the standard URL for promotional purposes. Example – English.wcu.edu is a subdomain for the English Department that is also http://www.wcu.edu/academics/departments-schools-colleges/cas/casdepts/english/index.asp. 
    service: we will create a subdomain to forward to a single webpage.
  • university search engine
    we manage WCU’s Google Mini search tool for the WCU website. 
    service: force pages to return at the top of search results for a given keyword or set of keywords.
    service: remove old pages from the search engine’s results
  • website usage reports
    Information about the traffic coming to a single webpage or set of webpages, using Google Analytics.
    service: PDF report is emailed monthly.

    webmaster@wcu.edu is open for all questions, comments and concerns about any and all WCU websites. We receive incoming email and route it appropriately.

Requirements/Limitations

To edit wcu.edu - windows, Internet Explorer, account for OU Campus/Content Management System. Additional software is needed to edit images, audio and video.

To edit paws.wcu.edu or claws.wcu.edu - account for paws/claws, web editing software (such as Dreamweaver) - available in on-campus labs for students, in the Faculty Sandbox for faculty or available for purchase by faculty, staff, and students.

To edit faculty professional presence websites using WordPress - account for the site, standard supported internet browser.

Intranet Committee Sites - supported version of Microsoft Office, internet access. 

Collaboration sites are available for committees that involve WCU faculty, staff and student administrative workers from multiple administrative or academic units.  There are two options for a site, depending on your needs:

 

Standard Committee Site

Template includes:

  • Categories List (used for metadata on libraries)
  • Discussion Board
  • Dashboard Page
    • Announcements
    • View of documents for an upcoming meeting

Custom Committee Site

Features and policies of a custom site are dependent on your requirements.  Custom sites are projects and must follow the IT IT governance and prioritization process. The time required to deliver a custom site is significantly longer than the standard site. To submit a project request, follow the instructions on the IT Governance Committee site.

Retention policy:

 

If the committee is temporary, the site will be archived for one year immediately following the committee's final meeting. After one year, the site will be permanently deleted.

Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of scheduled maintenance.

Provide RedDot accounts, offer training and support as detailed here, keep all servers online, create webspace on paws/claws when needed, create committee websites, setup appropriate permissions, keep WCU Hub online.
