How to Access/Request this Service
To request a Qualtrics account, please call the IT Help Desk.
From this request, the Coulter Faculty Commons will verify that you have passed your human subject (CITI) training and if needed, have an approved IRB.
Service Description
Western Carolina University provides an online survey tool, Qualtrics to be used for academic research. These surveys can be shared among peers internal to WCU or external to WCU as long as the eligibility requirements have been met.
Requirements/Limitations
This tool is web based. If you have access to the Internet either Mac or Windows you will have access to the survey tool.
Eligibility
In order for any faculty, staff or student to get an account, they must pass the human subjects training.
Students working on a research survey must have a faculty chair and be included on or submit an IRB application that must be approved prior to gaining access. Student accounts are active for one year and are allowed one survey unless their IRB specifies that they will need more.
Staff must contact the IRB office to determine if they need to submit an IRB application. The IRB staff will contact the Qualtrics manager to let them know about what access they may or may not have. Staff are allowed one survey per each request unless the IRB staff has allowed or indicated more. The staff accounts remain active for one year.
Faculty have access to the survey tool for research needs until their human subjects training expires (5 years). They may create as many surveys as they need for their research.
External individuals working with a WCU faculty or staff member can get access to a survey for a limited time. They will also need to complete the same human subjects (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative, CITI) training and get their training associated with Western Carolina University so that we can verify that they have passed the training. They also need to be included on the approved IRB submitted to the WCU IRB Committee.
Service Availability
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of scheduled maintenance.
