Service Description
Mobile Communication Devices (MCDs) are cell phones (including cell phones with two-way communication capability), Blackberries and other PDAs (Personal Digital Assistants), pagers, wireless cards, and any other mobile communication devices.
At WCU, there are two ways to access to university data/email via Mobile Communication Devices:
Pull - Go to http://email.wcu.edu/ on your MCD for FREE
- E-mail messages are accessed via a mobile web browser. This is also known as web mail, accessible at http://email.wcu.edu/.
- This delivery method is recommended for security reasons.
- Requires a device with a good web browser.
- Device is not required to be registered.
- Subject to Electronic Mail Policy 93.
- Not subject to Mobile Communication Device (MCD) Policy.
Push - Register for a tier of service at a COST
- E-mail messages are delivered (“pushed”) automatically to the MCD. Messages are viewed in an application on the MCD.
- This delivery method is recommended for employees that have a business need to frequently access university data/e-mail.
- Device is required to be registered.
- Subject to Electronic Mail Policy 93.
- Subject to Mobile Communication Device (MCD) Policy.
There are two delivery options:
Push - Tier 1 – BlackBerry Enterprise Server (BES): All Blackberry devices must use this connection method.
Push - Tier 2 – ActiveSync 4.5: Devices running Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 or greater can utilize this method. ActiveSync devices will not be able to view attachments.

Requirements/Limitations
This applies only to employees having email PUSHED to an MCD which they personally own and which is configured to automatically receive WCU mail messages or other university data.
Any employee can use http://email.wcu.edu/ to PULL their email via a mobile web browser, for free, without using the MCD service.
Eligibility
University employee.
Department head or their designee will decide your eligibility for a MCD allowance. More information on MCD allowances.
Service Availability
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, with the exception of scheduled maintenance.

The costs below apply only to employees having email/data PUSHED to an MCD which they personally own and which is configured to automatically receive WCU mail messages or other university data.

Failure to pay setup fees within 30 days will result in registered devices to be disconnected. In order to setup a disconnected device, setup fees will be applied.
