What action do I take?
When you are hired (or rehired) into a job position at WCU, you will go through an
“HR Intake Process." You will be required to review information about FERPA (Family
Educational Rights and Privacy Act), if applicable to your job position. Once you
have signed a Confidentiality Statement and fulfilled FERPA requirements, HR will
input data into the Banner system. The appropriate initial computer account access
will be created via an automated process using the data that has been entered. HR
will communicate specifics to you about when and how to log in to claim and begin
using your account(s).
What action does my hiring department take?
No additional paperwork or request is necessary at this time.
How long will my access remain?
This account is valid until separation from the employment position or contract expiration
(if under contract).
Note: Emeritus Faculty (only) may retain life-time email. The Provost’s Office coordinates
this action; nothing additional is required from the Faculty/Department.
What action do I take?
Review specific criteria for additional account authorization. Verify that your job meets the criteria for the type of access you are requesting. If
you qualify for the account, follow through with the action indicated.
What action does my hiring department take?
The department sponsor or department head, who oversees the authorization of this
type account needs to review specific criteria for additional account authorization. The department must verify that the requested access is valid for the job position. If
the position qualifies for the access, the department should follow through with the
indicated action.

This account is valid until separation from the employment position or contract expiration
(if under contract).

What action do I take?
Remind the department head or department sponsor who requested your account that they
need to submit the appropriate form.
What action does my hiring department take?
It is the responsibility of the department supervisor to inform HR of the employee
separation date by completing the appropriate separation form. This task should be
completed in a timely manner, so that computer access can be terminated without delay.
