How to Access/Request this Service
The CoursEval tool is made available to all courses at the end of the semester/course. To have a Small Group Analysis for your course(s) please contact the Coulter Faculty Commons. To get assistance in using Blackboard for a student evaluation, please contact the LMS Team in the Coulter Faculty Commons.
Service Description
The University supports many student evaluation opportunities which are noted below:
A. CoursEval is the online software used to get student feedback at the end of each semester. Coulter Faculty Commons staff members will be glad to assist you in interpreting the feedback and applying it to your course as a part of confidential, formative assessment.
B. Small Group Analysis (SGA) involves a Coulter Faculty Commons staff member going into the instructor’s classroom without the instructor present to collect and discuss with students what is working well and what can be improved during the semester. The Coulter Faculty Commons also offers Classroom Observations using a checklist designed to match the WCU Principles for Effective Teaching. These processes are formative and confidential. To participate in either program, call 227-7196 or go to IT Self-Service and request the service.
C. The course management software, Blackboard enables faculty to survey their students from within their online course.
Requirements/Limitations
CoursEval, Small Group Analysis and Blackboard are all available for faculty to use in their courses. CoursEval is made available through the Provost’s Office and is an on-line tool. Blackboard both contain online tools to assist in surveying students with in the course management system. The Small Group Analysis is a synchronous tools that can be used in on-campus or online classes.
Eligibility
These resources are all available to any faculty at Western Carolina University.
Availability
CoursEval is available at the end of each course offered at WCU. Small Group Analysis is available by appointment only. Blackboard survey tool is available in each course. The Blackboard tool is available 24 hours a day 7 days a week other than scheduled maintenance outages.
