How to Access/Request this Service

To request a course shell for WCU on iTunes U, fill out the class request form at http://itunes.wcu.edu. To access a protected course on WCU on iTunes U, use the class login form at http://itunes.wcu.edu to authenticate with the service. Tutorials for the WCU on iTunes U service are also available at http://itunes.wcu.edu.

The tools for faculty to create podcasts can be found in the Coulter Faculty Commons. The tools for students to create podcasts can be found in the Technology Commons.

iTunes U and Podcasting

Service Description

Western Carolina University has the ability to create podcasts and post them using the WCU on iTunes U service for class and/or public consumption. WCU also has a streaming server where videos of other types can be posted for student consumption.

Requirements/Limitations

To access content within WCU on iTunes U you will need the iTunes music software installed on your computer. You can also access the system via iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad devices using the iTunes application.

Content creation tools are generally Mac based but a podcast can be created in Windows then converted to a MPEG compatible format to be used in iTunes U. The best resources for this tool reside in the Faculty Sandbox in the Coulter Faculty Commons in Hunter Library.

Access to the WCU streaming server is limited to faculty and their students.

Eligibility

Faculty, staff and students all may have access to iTunes and the associated tools to create podcasts.

Faculty and students may access the WCU streaming server upon request.

Service Availability

WCU on iTunes U is available 24 hours by 7 days a week. The creation of the associated accounts may take a few business days.

The WCU streaming server is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except for scheduled maintenance.
