Entrepreneurship Overview

The newest and most exciting program in the College of Business, Entrepreneurship is a practical hands-on program of study which is designed by people who are actually entrepreneurs and who continue to face the challenges of growing an entrepreneurial venture in the face of increasing competition. The entrepreneurship Major is the first and only Entrepreneurship program in North Carolina.

Entrepreneurship has the utmost relevance and currency and has been cited in a recent business Week article as the fastest growing program in the United States. Further, Entrepreneurship is the key to economic development regionally, nationally, and internationally.

One of the most visible aspecst of Entrepreneurship is the growing emphasis E-Commerce. E-Commerce is a theme woven throughout the program.

Large firms are increasingly recognizing the need for entrepreneurial thinking and entrepreneurial postures to aid in creating new markets and products, and in competing in the global marketplace. Consequently, large firms will be as interested in Entrepreneurship graduates as small firms are because they know that Entrepreneurship Graduates are Creative.

The major in Entrepreneurship program provides the skills necessary for graduates to think creatively, to successfully launch their own businesses, or to support an employer in launching and growing and entrepreneurial venture. In business education, there is no more timely topic nor any more vital subject than entrepreneurship, and this program thrusts Western Carolina University into the forefront of its competitors who continues to pursue 'follow the leader' strategies.
