Completed in 1939 as part of a campus construction boom made possible by Franklin
D. Roosevelt’s New Deal, the historic 450-seat Hoey Auditorium was the university’s
first dedicated performance space and helped Western Carolina expand its music and
arts offerings.
Renovated in the 1980s, Hoey Auditorium serves as a primary performance venue for
productions by students from WCU’s School of Stage & Screen.
