QEP Assessment Mini-Grant
Purpose:  QEP Assessment Mini-Grants encourage development and implementation of effective program assessments by providing resources to help defray the costs of such efforts. 

Goals:

  1. To encourage development or implementation of assessments aimed specifically at a program’s QEP efforts.
  2. To promote best practices in assessment of the QEP at the program/unit level.
  3. To facilitate faculty/staff participation in the scholarship of assessment.

How much can I ask for?
Grant requests up to $2500 will be considered.  The number of grants awarded will be based on the yearly budgeted amount.

The total amount awarded is subject to the availability of funds. 

How can I use the funds?
Funds from the QEP Assessment Mini-Grants must be used for activities that are directly related to the development or implementation of a program’s QEP plan.  Valid uses of QEP Assessment Mini-Grant funds include, but are not limited to:

  • Expenses related to administration of certification or professional exams that provide feedback on curricular strengths and weaknesses
  • Focus group expenses (except food or other food-related expenses)
  • Survey expenses
  • Honoraria and travel for external reviewers of student work products (portfolios, projects, exhibits, performances, etc.)
  • Software applications and/or licenses
  • Support for student assistants directly involved in assessment-related activities
  • Equipment related directly to assessment activities
  • Faculty/staff stipends to develop and implement assessment measures/instruments
  • Faculty/staff travel expenses to professional conferences with an assessment track and/or to present on some aspect of the assessment program in their unit.

QEP Assessment Mini-Grants can be used to support outcomes assessment in the following areas:

  • Undergraduate Academic Programs
  • Administrative or Educational Support programs in Academic or Student Affairs

How do I apply?
Applications for a QEP Assessment Mini-Grant must contain the following information:

  1. A description of the assessment activity(ies) to be funded
  2. Individual(s) responsible for each assessment activity
  3. Amount requested for each assessment activity
  4. Timeline
  5. Plan for disseminating results to program faculty/staff

Completed applications should be submitted to the Office of Institutional Planning & Effectiveness, H.F.R. 450.  All questions about the applications should be addressed to Melissa Wargo, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Planning & Effectiveness at ext. 3082 or wargo@wcu.edu.  Review of the grant proposals will be completed by the QEP Assessment Committee.

What are my responsibilities if I receive a QEP Assessment Mini-Grant?
At the conclusion of the funding year, all grant recipients must provide:

  • a report summarizing the activities completed and funds expended, and
  • a summary of the actions taken or proposed as result of the assessments

Additionally, grant recipients must be willing to share the results of the project in a campus-wide assessment forum, when requested.
