Steve Matichak
Engineering Technology Major
Dream: Work in design engineering.
Coming true at WCU: Helped engineer a patent-seeking solution for regional health care providers struggling to keep up with removable wheelchair foot pedals.
“I really enjoyed working with a team that was dedicated to the project. We would come up with different ideas, make small suggestions and just build off of each other as we developed several prototypes.”
Ramona Dowdell
Social Work Major
Dream: Set up community youth center.
Coming true at WCU: Participated in Freshman Leadership Institute and dozens of service-learning activities,
including organizing holiday gifts for children of families in need.
“I take seriously the advice given by Gandhi, ‘Be the change you wish to see in the
world.’ I have decided to work in a helping profession because of the opportunities
it offers to serve the community and assist people in need.”
