Location:  

The community garden is located 1 block from downtown Sylva.  From campus, take Hwy. 107 to downtown Sylva. At the last traffic light downtown, turn right on Grindstaff Cove road.  Take the first left, onto Central Avenue, then another left at the “T.”  The garden is a block on the left after the curve in the road.  Pass the garden and park in the church parking lot on the right.

Agency Description:  

The Community Garden is a 1/3 acre plot of organic garden space in downtown Sylva.  Much of the fresh produce is donated either through its incorporation in the meals served by the Community Table or through direct donations to people in need.

Training:  

Student volunteers would work with a seasoned gardener.

Time Commitment:  

No limit

Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements:  

Must be OK with getting dirty, using garden tools, working outside, etc.

Volunteer Involvement:  

Volunteers can help with weeding, planting, and harvesting vegetables, general landscape maintenance and minor carpentry.  During harvest times, help may be needed to process fresh produce for use in the kitchen or for direct distribution.
