Agency Description:

The Community Table addresses food insecurity and hunger in Jackson County by providing hot, nutritious meals to those in need. Additionally, food boxes are distributed to low-income families and individuals, ensuring that those in need have access to food. Our other program, The Community Garden, provides organic produce to be used in meal preparation and for distribution to our clients.

Training:

Will train, very short.

Time Commitment:

Any time you can give will be greatly appreciated!

Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements:

None required; will train. Volunteers should wear closed-toe shoes and sleeved shirts, and restrain long hair.

Volunteer Involvement:

We are open for dinner on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 4-6. We get started around 10:30 on those days with meal preparation and tasks around the house. Other than food prep, tasks include sweeping and mopping, taking out recycling, rolling silverware, dating and stocking food, etc. We typically need anywhere from 2-4 (not limited to 4, any amount of volunteers is great) folks during the first shift. That lasts until about 3:30, then we gear up for dinner service which is from 4-6, and we’re typically done with clean-up by 6:30. We do ask volunteers, especially new ones, to come in around 3:30 to receive quick training before dinner starts.  We usually have a greater need for folks to help with dinner service from 3:30-6:30, and generally can use 4 to 6 folks to help with waiting tables, washing dishes, serving from the steam table, etc.

Help is also needed in the office, and occasionally with special events. Please email for details. Thank you for your interest!
