| Location: | Take Hwy 74 towards Bryson City/Cherokee. Take the Cherokee exit to Hwy 441 North.
At the first stoplight turn right. Turn left at the next stoplight (in front of Harrah's).
Make a right at the 3rd stoplight in town onto Acquoni Road. Follow Acquoni until
you see Cherokee High School on the left. Turn right into the parking lot of the log
cabin, marked "WCU Cherokee." |
| Agency Description: | The program is designed for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI). It was conceived
in cooperative efforts of WCU Cherokee Center, NC Cooperative Extension of Cherokee,
and OnTrack Financial & Educational Counseling. The mission of this program is to
provide financial education, services, and counseling to EBCI-enrolled members and
others in the far western counties of North Carolina (Jackson, Swain, Graham, Clay,
and Cherokee). The program serves individuals beginning in pre-school through adulthood. |
| Training: | Sessions on Cultural Awareness. |
| Time Commitment: | Flexible: weekly, monthly, or event-specific. |
| Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: | A desire to work with children (especially Cherokee children). A variety of settings
and age groups available. |
| Volunteer Involvement: | Students from any discipline are welcome. Experience may be particularly relevant
to majors in Education, Counseling, and Social Services. |
