| Location: | To get to the office, take Hwy 107 to Sylva, then turn left at Ingles, onto Webster
Road. Turn right after approximately a quarter of a mile into the new Jackson County
Services Park. The Department on Aging is in the large building at the top of the
hill. |
| Agency Description: | Project CARE (Community Action to Reach the Elderly) is a home repair program for
senior citizens and is part of the Jackson County Department on Aging. |
| Training: | Groups of volunteers should send a representative for a short orientation a few days
before their project date. |
| Time Commitment: | Time commitment is at least 4 hours a week, generally flexible hours worked out with
volunteers around their schedules. |
| Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: | Volunteers must have good people skills, good telephone skills, and relate easily
with older 60+ population. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities. Training
is available for the volunteer activity chosen. WCU students are especially welcome.
All volunteers must wear closed-toed shoes, no shorts and bring gloves. |
| Volunteer Involvement: | Saturday volunteerism is available. Volunteers are mostly needed to help build wheelchair
ramps on people's homes. Other general manual labor and home repair projects are also
available. |
