| Agency Description: | The Jackson County Department on Aging provides services for persons aged 60 or older
in Jackson County. The services include health and educational programs, social outings
and trips, home safety modification, adult day care, in-home respite, and nutrition.
The Elder Nutrition Program administered by the Department on Aging provides Home
Delivered Meals for the homebound elderly. Your volunteer involvement will assist
directly with the Home Delivered Meals Program. |
| Training: | Meeting with Karen. |
| Time Commitment: | There are no specific time commitments with this volunteer opportunity, depending
on the route, could be one and a half hours. |
| Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: | Valid NC driver's license. |
| Volunteer Involvement: | A great many of our low income seniors live alone and depend on their pets for company
as well as a sense of security. Unfortunately, many of them are unable to provide
nutritious pet food for their companions because their limited income must be used
for medicine, utilities, and other bills. Recent studies have shown that often times
these folks share their home delivered meals with their pets, creating an unhealthy
situation for both pet and owner. Operation AniMeals was developed to provide supplemental
pet food for any of our Home Delivered Meals clients that would benefit from this
program. Funding is provided solely by donations from individuals, churches, and other
organizations. Your help is needed in organizing a fund raiser or pet food drive to
benefit Operation AniMeals. |
