| Agency Description: | The Mission of the Mediation Center is to create opportunity from conflict. The Mediation
Center provides conflict resolution services and supervised visitation to over 3,000
persons a year. We also coordinate Changing Together, a collaborative working against
gang violence in Buncombe County. The Mediation Center is a United Way agency hat
began service in Buncombe County in 1983. The Mediation Center's programs include
family visitation services, mediation services, gang prevention, and training. These
programs are carried out by 16 staff members supposed by a large group of trained
volunteers. |
| Training: | We provide a variety of training depending on the program and the particular volunteer
opportunity. |
| Time Commitment: | Students should work for at least four hours a week, preferably for at least one semester. |
| Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: | Opportunities vary depending on the program and the type of work at the Mediation
Center. |
| Volunteer Involvement: | Students have a close involvement due to the small size and team-based organization of the Mediation Center. |
