| Agency Description: |
The Housing Assistance Corporation is a private, non-profit organization committed to providing safe and affordable housing for persons of limited income living in Henderson County and surrounding areas, because we believe every human being deserves the opportunity to live in a decent home. Housing Assistance performs repairs for health and safety on homes throughout the
year. The agency also conducts a Fall Prevention program that is designed to educate
low income elderly and disabled people about the risks of falling in the home and
offers suggestions for how to prevent falling. The program also complete modifications
and safety upgrades to homes so homeowners may remain living independently, safely
and with a sense of security in their own homes. Other programs include homebuyer
education and new homes construction including a self-help program for homeowners
to assist in the building of their own homes. |
| Training: | Training is dependent upon the volunteer position and specific assignments. A basic
orientation to the agency and our services and programs will be provided for every
volunteer. |
| Time Commitment: | Flexible. There are one-time and ongoing opportunities. |
| Skills, Experience, and Special Requirements: | A wide variety of skills and experience are needed and welcome. Interested beginners
have the opportunity to learn new skills, and experienced workers can contribute in
very meaningful ways. Background checks will be completed for volunteers age 18 and
older. |
| Volunteer Involvement: | Housing Assistance relies on support from volunteers for a variety of tasks and we
are always in need of people with the following skill sets or areas of expertise:
administrative office support, advocacy & public policy, computers, construction,
editing, fundraising, group dynamics, home repairs, language interpretation, legal,
marketing, real estate, speaking, teaching & education, video or photography and word
processing. |
