Western Carolina University is in the midst of a comprehensive academic program prioritization process to ensure that we have the right mix of programs to enable us to meet our institutional mission and to position the university for the opportunities and challenges of the future. A direct outcome of the university’s recently approved strategic plan, titled “2020 Vision: Focusing Our Future,” the academic program prioritization process examines the quality, productivity and centrality of all academic programs. The ultimate goal of the process is to provide university leadership the information it needs in order to make decisions concerning the best use of existing and future resources to serve the educational needs of our students. This website is designed to be a repository for information on the program prioritization process, including recommendations about what programs are recommended to be retained (whether with existing, enhanced or reduced resources) and which are recommended to be discontinued.
