Formerly Executive Memorandum 96-117
Initially approved August 19, 1996
Administering Office: Academic Affairs

Salary payments made by the University to nine-month faculty members for services during the Summer are negotiated amounts.

Such payments made from University funds, excluding grants and contracts received for externally sponsored activities, may not exceed two-ninths of the 9-month contract salary for the academic year immediately preceding the Summer of employment. This maximum compensation is for a full-time appointment for 60 days.

Summer salary payments from grants and contracts may not exceed. three-ninths of the 9-month contract salary. This maximum compensation is for a full-time appointment for 90 days.

Rates of pay for Summer employment for periods of shorter duration or less than full-time effort likewise are negotiated. However, the maximum for such appointments will be a daily rate based on the 9-month salary divided by 195 (39 weeks x 5 days per week) and adjusted for the per cent of full-time effort. Compensable time and effort may not exceed five days per week and 100% effort.

Faculty members whose Summer salaries are paid from a National Science Foundation grant are subject to an NSF regulation which limits Summer pay to a maximum of two-ninths of the 9-month salary.
