Recipient must be a senior at a public, charter or private high school in North Carolina
or have a GED certificate and be accepted for enrollment as an undergraduate in an
approved postsecondary institution. Byrd Scholars are selected on the basis of demonstrated
outstanding academic achievement and promise of continued academic excellence. The
scholarship may be used to attend any accredited postsecondary institution in the
