We are pleased that you have chosen to start or continue
your academic career at Western Carolina University. The Student
Affairs Division offers an interesting array of programs,
services, and facilities designed to meet your needs. This
student handbook is designed to introduce you to not only
the resources of the division but also to those of many other
areas on campus.
In our aspirations statement, the university encourages students
to demonstrate the following characteristics of citizenship,
namely:
1. Honesty, integrity, and responsibility
2. Service to others
3. Awareness of and sensitivity to the concerns of diverse
peoples and cultures
4. Commitment to the stewardship of the natural and cultural
environment.
These qualities are affirmed in the "Community Creed"
which we encourage you to read elsewhere in the handbook.
I hope you will respond to the important challenges which
membership in a university community entails.
We encourage you to involve yourself in our co-curricular
programs at a level that suits your needs and goals. Join
an intramural team, a club, an organization, or become involved
in the Student Government or the Resident Student Association.
Many educational, cultural, recreational, and social programs
await you.
If you have any questions or need further information, please
contact the Office for Student Affairs. Best wishes for a
great year!
Sincerely,

Robert Caruso
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
