Project Structure
The IT Division has engaged Blackwell Consulting Services
to provide the expertise to guide this process through the
months of October and November of this year. For more information
see the section on BCS.
The Director of Information Technology Planning from the
Office of the CIO (Debbie Justice) will be responsible for
policy formulation, review and coordination with both internal
departments (Users, Internal audit, University Police, the
Office of Human Resources etc.) and external agencies (UNC
Office of the President, state auditors, state police, FBI
and the office of Homeland Security etc.) as needed.
She will work with Director of Networking, Operations, &
Communications (Scott Swartzentruber) to develop the second
tier rules, regulations and standards needed to enforce the
technical aspects of the policies, and the Director of Applications,
Development and Support (Edna Waldrop) to establish application
and data protection policies and procedures.
These two departments will hire consultants and assign and
train appropriate staff to actually install, implement and
remove necessary security hardware and software on the campus.
This group will form the Computer Incident Response Team
(CIRT) as outlined in the UNC NetStudy document (see link)
to investigate, respond to, and communicate to the University
any security issues that may arise in a timely fashion.
