Catamount Mail FAQs

 

How do I access Catamount Mail?

  • Log into My Cat and click on the Catamount Mail Tab.

I have another email address... do I have to check Catamount Mail?

  • It's your responsibility, as no one can force you to check your Catamount Mail address. However, Catamount Mail is the official communication method for university/student communications including messages concerning notifications and alerts as well as course information from instructors. This is to ensure you get important personal messages.

Can I forward Catamount Mail to another address?

  • Catamount Mail is the official communication method for university/student communications including messages concerning notifications and alerts. Due to increased security measures and our commitment to guarantee email delivery from any @email.wcu.edu address, students are not able to forward their Catamount Email to another address.

I clicked on the Catamount Mail tab, IE says ?Done? but nothing happened. Why?

  • Your account is initialized the first time you access Catamount Mail. Unfortunately this may take a few seconds. Even thought IE says ?Done? please give it a few seconds longer to load the initial page.

Safari on my Mac is having problems accessing Catamount Mail. Is there a problem?

  • Unfortunately, Catamount Mail uses a Microsoft infrastructure that is not completely Mac friendly. Switching to Firefox on the Mac resolves the access issues.

What happens the first time I use Catamount Mail?

  • Your account must undergo an initialization process when first access. You will not have to repeat these steps. Complete the prompts to use Catamount Mail. Instructions are available at http://www.wcu.edu/it/catamountmail/

Do I need a separate Username and PIN for Catamount Mail?

  • Your Catamount Mail is automatically synced with your My Cat log in information. No additional username or password is necessary after completing the initial setup sets.

If I change the My Cat PIN do I need to change anything in Catamount Mail?

  • No changes are necessary. Catamount Mail access is connected to your My Cat account. Password changes are automatically shared between My Cat and Catamount Mail.

My name is not displayed as part of the mail page greeting, instead I get an !.. What's wrong?

  • Hey, nobody's perfect! This is a known error with Catamount Mail and Microsoft. We're working on it! This error will not impact any mail functionality.

As a faculty or staff member, do I have a Catamount Mail account?

  • No, if you have an Outlook account a Catamount Mail account will not be created. Your Outlook address is the email address of record for official university communications.

I'm a faculty or staff member and I get a password error when I try to initialize my account. Why?

  • Faculty and staff members are given an Outlook account rather than a Catamount Mail account. The Outlook account will be used for official university correspondence.

I'm a faculty or staff member, and I'm also a student. Do I have a Catamount Mail account?

  • No, if you have an Outlook account a Catamount Mail account will not be created. Your Outlook address is the email address of record for official university communications and course-related communication.

I'm a faculty member wanting to email my class from MyCat. What student email address is used?

  • The addressed used will be the primary address as listed in Banner. The primary address used is the Catamount Mail address for students and the Outlook address for faculty and staff. Even if faculty or staff members are taking classes the Outlook address remains the official primary address.

Not often, but sometimes when I use Catamount Mail I am prompted with a box with letters and am asked to enter those. What's going on?

  • This is a good thing as it is a protection against SPAM. It's Catamount Mail's way of ensuring that your current session is a legitimate use of the email system. It's a hassle having to enter the letters but well worth the time considering all the SPAM and viruses the system is blocking on your behalf.

How do I forward mail from our old VMS system to the new Catamount Mail system?
