NOT JUST A DORM ANYMORE! Sure, college is about learning and preparing for your future, but those are not the only important things about higher education.   College also is about making a new home for yourself and meeting new people, and Western Carolina University's residential communities are a great place to start.   On behalf of the entire Residential Living Staff, we would like to welcome you.  We look forward to being a partner with you in making your academic experience as successful as possible.

When colleges and universities were first founded, they had "dormitories" to provide a place for students to sleep.   Times have changed.  Dormitories are now residence halls and they have a purpose that involves much more than sleeping.   Western Carolina's Department of Residential Living has created a variety of learning environments to meet an array of needs.   There are special floors in many residence halls where tobacco or alcohol is prohibited, and floors for students who agree to maintain 24-hour quiet.   There is a special floor for older students who have returned to school and a special floor for students who are dedicated to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The information presented in this web site is designed to assist you in adapting to your new home and to inform you of your right and responsibilities as members of a residential community. It is our hope to provide some information to make the college experience a positive one. We have tried to anticipate some questions you may have concerning our services, facilities, and programs. If, however, you have further questions, please contact us. We want you to know that we are dedicated to making the college experience an integral part of your personal growth and development. Again, welcome to residence hall living at Western Carolina University.

Our mission is to serve the communities of Western Carolina University by providing clean, safe, and healthy living environments that enhance and support the educational mission, goals and creed of the university. We strive to create living and learning communities where students feel valued as individuals and where diversity and fellowship with others can be celebrated. While maintaining a high level of quality service, we shall encourage and provide opportunities for personal growth and development of character, leadership, honesty, respect, and pride.
