Western Carolina University operates a complex of 35 apartments. The complex is located on Long Branch Road. It has three, three-bedroom units, 26, two-bedroom units and six, one-bedroom apartments. An additional 9 units are located in various areas on the main campus.

Lease Agreement and Availability
The units are available to faculty and staff, with priority given to new faculty or staff who are moving to the community from other areas. A lease agreement is required and will be for the period from occupancy until June 30 and renewable at that time. A termination notice of 30 days will be required of occupants at any time.

More specific information related to lease agreements may be obtained by contacting the Department of University Residential Living.


Application, Deposit and Assignment
Application may be made with the Residential Living Office, 1st West Scott Hall. Ability to assign depends upon vacancies created by departure of tenants. You will be notified as to assignments, and upon acceptance of the assignment, a security deposit equal to one months rent is required. The deposit is refundable after the apartment is vacated and checked for damages.

1 Bedroom: $316 per month 2 Bedroom: $434 per month 2 Bedroom: $394 per month
2 Bedroom: $405 per month
3 Bedroom: $471 per month

Utilities

After assignment of a rental unit, it is the lessee's responsibility to contact the WCU Utility Department located in the Controller's Office, H.F. Robinson Administration Building, Telephone No. 227-7285, to complete an application/contract for electric service. This utility is billed monthly and payment may be mailed or paid in the Cashier's Office, 322 H.F Robinson Administration Building.

Apartments are total electric.

Water service is available through Tuckaseigee Water Authority in Sylva, Telephone No. 586-5189.

Keys will not be issued until utility services have been established.

Telephone outlets are built into each apartment. Installation and services must be requested from Verizon Residential Services, 1-800-483-4000.

The University provides garbage cans and garbage pick-up.

All 2 and 3 bedroom units include washer and dryer hookups for laundry. Also, a privately owned laundry firm is located within walking distance of the apartments.

Furnishings

The University provides a stove and refrigerator for each unit. Otherwise, the apartments are unfurnished. Installation of air conditioning units is prohibited.

Miscellaneous
The U.S. Postal Service does not provide mail delivery to any rental units. The lessee must maintain a post office box at the Cullowhee Post Office.

Pending approval, with a nonrefundable payment of $50.00 per pet small pets may be kept in an apartment. No dogs are allowed.

Activities or loud parties that create disturbances that may annoy or discomfort other residents will not permitted.

Storage space in the apartments is limited, and University owned storage facilities for individual belongings are not available.
Shipments of personal belongings to the University prior to your arrival cannot be accepted.

Rent for any permanent employee of the University will be deducted by payroll deduction. For non-permanent employees, rent is payable in advance and due on the 3rd of each month.
