"Block" Practicum is a required course for undergraduate elementary/middle grades education majors. Students usually take "block" the semester before beginning the internship. The series Block, Intern I and Intern II must be taken in this order and cannot overlap so it is imperative that students be ready to take Block in the second semester of their Junior Year - leaving the Senior Year for Internship I and II.
The "Block" application packet should be submitted after registering for courses. This packet will need to be completed using Taskstream.
Results page of Background Check must be dated within 6 months prior to beginning experience.
Student Requirements:
- Spend one full day a week in a public school classroom
- Attend a seminar twice a semester
- Keep a journal
- Write and teach 3-4 lessons over the course of the semester (These lessons must be approved and evaluated by the cooperating teacher.)
The "block" coordinator from the School of Teaching and Learning visits each student once per semester. Students are also evaluated by the cooperating teacher at the end of the semester.
If a student misses more than two days they must withdraw from the course and repeat.
