A major finding of the CSBT surveys administered May 2007 revealed that lateral entry teachers and those hired after school begins have the greatest need for additional support. In addition, traditional-entry teachers indicated a higher level of overall satisfaction with the support received (91%) than did lateral-entry teachers (79%).
In response to this finding, a Mid-Year Induction Symposium, sponsored by Western's CSBT, School-University Teacher Education Partnership, and participating WNC school systems, was held January 25, 2008 for those hired after the beginning of the school year. Thirty-seven teachers participated from eleven systems. Evaluations were overwhelmingly positive.
The 2nd annual Mid-Year Induction Symposium is scheduled for January 23, 2009. Registration information will be available later in the fall.
