Promoting resourcefulness, independent thinking, and service, our program prepares leaders for professions in recreation and outdoor education. You’ll learn from our accomplished faculty in an intellectual and caring environment in which hands-on experiences complement classroom theory.

  • In the classroom: you’ll learn skills required for administration, program planning, leadership, and outdoor leadership and instruction.
  • Out of the classroom: you’ll perform service work in the region and gain hands-on experience through internships at sites such as the Nantahala Outdoor Center and area parks and recreation departments.
  • After graduation: you may work in a variety of commercial and non-profit settings, including county park and recreation departments, resorts, travel and tourism organizations, corporations, summer camps, and outdoor centers, as have our past graduates.
