Available to students in any major, the Minor in Coaching includes physical education and sport management courses. This is an attractive minor for students aspiring to coach youth and adolescents in competitive athletic scenarios. Please note that this minor does not lead to teacher licensure, students interested in earning licensure should consider majoring in Health and Phyiscal Education.
Coaching minors have the opportunity to gain both theoretical and practical knowledge from actual collegiate coaches by participating in skill and drill work in actual athletic environments on campus. They will often gain experience in day of game operations. Coaching minors can take advantage of the multitude of youth coaching opportunities in the local schools and recreation departments.
The minor requires 18 hours, including:
- PE 240 - Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries Credits: (3)
- PE 267 - Principles of Athletic Coaching Credits: (3)
- SM 340 – Sport Ethics Credits: (3)
And three courses selected from:
- PE 410 - Coaching Baseball and Football Credits: (3)
- PE 411 - Coaching Basketball, Track, and Field Credits: (3)
- PE 375 - Psychological Aspects of Physical Activity Credits: (3)
- SM 420 – Risk Management and Liability in Sport Credits: (3)
