Q: How do I sign up for the Backpacking and Rockclimbing Trip?
A: You have 2 options. First option is to add the fee for the first ascent trip when you are registering for your regular orientation session on line through Cat-walk. Once you have done that, we'll send you the rest of the paperwork to complete. Second option is to visit our "how to sign up" page, download the forms and pay via credt card or check.
Q: What if I have never been rafting, camping, backpacking/climbing before?
A: Don't worry, many of the participants have never been done any of these outdoor adventures before and students discover that they really enjoy camping as a group. On the trip, your leaders will teach you all the basic skills you will need to be comfortable.
Q: What kind of shape do I need to be in?
A: You should be in good physical shape for this First Ascent program. We will be traveling 2-5 miles a day with 45lb backpacks in mountainous terrain. Contact Base Camp if you have questions about the physical requirements of the program.
Q: Do I need any special equipment for the Backpacing Trip?
A: See Participant Packing List. You'll need to provide your own clothing. Base Camp Cullowhee can provide the rest. If there is anything you need from the list that you do not have please feel free to e-mail us.
