Are your kids itching to scale the wall? Looking for something fun to do with your family on a Friday night? Look no more. Kids Climb is only open to children under the age of 18 years old, who weigh at least 40lbs.
Cost: $5.00 per child if parents are a member of the CRC $10.00 per child if parents are not a member of the CRC

When the week has been long and all youre looking for is a little bit of fun and adventure, what better way to relax than a full night of skiing at Cataloochee! Join Base Camp Cullowhee on the slopes of Cataloochee ski resort every Friday night for the whole winter. Ski under the lights! Weve got special discounted rates that you can't beat! Skiers and Snowboarders are welcome. All rental packages include an optional free lesson.

KAYAK ROLL CLINIC January 26, February 16, March 8, 15, 22, 29 April 12, 19
Whether you want to start from scratch or just need a few pointers, the BCC roll clinic is the place to get rolling. Let our experienced instructors help you in the comfort of an indoor swimming pool. No experience necessary and no need to sign up in advance just show up, we even provide the boats and gear!

PINNACLE PEAK HIKE February 12
Join Base Camp Cullowhee as we hike one of our favorite local hiking trails. The Pinnacle Peak trail leads us from the Sylva lowlands up to the Pinnacle at 5000. This hike boasts a sweat breaking hills and spectacular views. Come explore your back yard with Base Camp Cullowhee! This Hike is rated as difficult, participants should be in good physical condition. Bring a sack lunch to eat on the trail. Time:9:30am

LAKE JOCASSEE CANOEING & CAMPING February 18-19
Were heading to beautiful Lake Jocassee in northern Oconee County in Salem, SC. This lake is a deep mountain lake with pristine blue water surrounded by mountains and has many easily accessible waterfalls to canoe to. We will be leaving Base Camp Cullowhee on Saturday morning and canoeing all day. We will have time to eat lunch on the lake and see a few waterfalls and rock cliffs. On Saturday night, we will camp under the stars at Keowee-Toxaway State Park, just a few minutes from Lake Jocassee, before heading back on Sunday morning. Equipment, transportation, and most meals included. Lake Jocassee is about 1.5 hours from campus. We plan to be back mid-afternoon on Sunday, plan to bring money for a fast food lunch on the way home.

LEAD CLIMBING CLINIC February 19
Take your climbing skills to the next level and learn how to lead routes from the ground up. Well cover the basics of lead climbing and belaying a lead climber. Youll get to practice some moc leads as well as try out a lead fall or two. This class is for people who already have the belay certification (which can be obtained at Thursday evening belay clinics).

JACK RABBIT MOUTAIN BIKING February 26
Join Base Camp on a mountain biking trip suitable for beginners to intermediate mountain bikers as we explore the Jack Rabbit trail system. Well ride several loops ranging in difficulty and length. Bring your own bike or borrow one from us! Transportation, guides, and equipment included, bring your own lunch and snacks to eat on the trail.

CONGAREE NATIONAL PARK SWAMP CANOEING & CAMPING March 1-3
Were heading to Congaree National Park, South Carolinas only national park. There, we will have the chance to explore the vast reaches of the Congaree river swamp, rich with wildlife and vegetation unique to the swamp, and camp in the backcountry. In the swamp, youll have the opportunity to see snakes, lizards, birds, and other mammals and reptiles. The trip will be great for beginners and experts alike. On the first night of the trip, we will have the opportunity to explore the swamp on guided boardwalks, and even attend park talks. Friday, we will spend the day canoeing Cedar Creek, before heading back to Cullowhee on Sunday. Please plan to bring money to stop for lunch on the way home.

CULLOWHEE ROCK AND RUMBLE FEST March 10
The Base Camp Cullowhee Climbing Wall in partnership with the WCU Climbing Team is hosting its third annual BOLDERING competition and its going to rock! Come and compete in one of the three categories, recreational, intermediate, and advanced for both men and women. This competition is part of the Appalachian Region of the Collegiate Climbing Series. Students from any college or university are welcome!

FLY CASTING AND FISHING SERIES March 12, 19, 26
Base Camp Cullowhee is teaming up with HookersFly Shop and Guide Service in Sylva, NC to offer this Fly Fishing series. Join us for all of the workshops or just one, its up to you. March 12 and 19 well learn how to cast and the basics of the river here on campus, and March 26th, well head to the river for an afternoon fishing experience. Learn from one the most popular shops in WNC from professional guide Clint Holcomb! Sign up in advance because space is limited and will fill fast! * All participants must have their fishing license and trout stamp.

7TH ANNUAL KAYAK DEMO DAY March 17
Once again Base Camp is teaming up with Local Kayak Manufactures to offer this celebration of spring paddling. Come try out the newest models of whitewater kayaks at Cullowhees favorite play spot, The Slab. Need a few tips for your roll, or play boat moves? The professional staff of Endless River Adventures will be on hand to give you pointers on whatever you need help with. In addition to the Slab Town Throw Down kayak competition weve added another event thats for everyone. Whether youre a pro kayaker or a leisure tuber youll love the Demo Day Ducky Race! Well bring all the gear; you just bring yourself and a sense of adventure. Join us afterwards in Illusions in the University Center for food and a showing of one of the latest extreme kayaking videos. Folks from all over Western North Carolina will be coming to this one, so dont miss it.

DAY ROCK CLIMBING CLINIC March 18
In this single day climbing clinic well spend all day Saturday at Looking Glass climbing classic NC beginner to intermediate routes. Well run the clinic based on the general skill of the group. All participants must be checked out to belay at the BCC Climbing Wall prior to signing up for the trip. Lunch on Saturday, gear, transportation, and guides included.

MT. LECONTE HIKE March 24
Mt. Leconte is by far one of the most famous trails in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Approx. 11 miles round trip with over 2500 feet of elevation gain youll see amazing views, rhododendron thickets, and take in some of the parks history. Participants should be in good physical condition and able to hike 11 miles. Plan to bring your own sack lunch and snacks to eat on the trail.

NANTHALA RAFT AND DUCKY TRIP March 25 & April 28
The Class II- III Nantahala River is the perfect river for everyone from beginners to experienced rafters. You have an option of rafting or paddling a duck to be a little closer to the action! Ducks are 1 or 2 person inflatable kayaks that sit lower in the water and guarantee an exciting ride. Plan to eat lunch before you come.

AFTERNOON KAYAK AND CANOE TRIP March 27, April 10 & 17
Well be exploring the local class I-II Whitewater Rivers on Tuesdays in March and April. If you have previous whitewater kayaking experience, or have attended one of our free Thursday night kayak roll clinics, then come join us for a late afternoon trip. Cost includes transportation and equipment. Sign up any time prior to trip.

NOLS WILDERNESS FIRST AID April14-15
If you plan to spend time in the backcountry you need to be prepared. Fast paced and hands-on, this two day course taught by instructors from Landmark Learning covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel and work in the outdoors. Lunch is included.

WHITEWATER KAYAK CLINIC April 14-15
Whitewater kayaking is one of the sports most commonly associated with the mountains and adventure. Learn the basics on the lake and then take your skills to the river with the instruction of Whitewater guides. Great for novice to intermediate paddlers. All gear, transportation, and lunch both days are included.

28th ANNUAL TUCKASEGEE RIVER CLEAN UP April 21
What better way to spend an April afternoon than helping out the community and environment all while having fun on the river? For the past 27 years thousands of volunteers have joined forces to clean up the Tuckasegee River. Once you register on the UC lawn youll be given a free t-shirt (while they last), snack, lifejacket, paddle, and transportation to the river. Once there youll get trash bags, listen to the river talk, hop in a raft and down the river youll go for a rafting / trash picking-up experience! For more information please check out our website.
